Hello everyone! My name is Michael Mulderrig. I am currently a student at the University of South Carolina studying Media Arts and Business. I am originally from New Jersey, no I don’t periodically go tanning, and New York City has always been my second home. I decided to go away to school to get a different perspective of life and culture, while at the same time continuing my education.
I like to describe myself as hardworking and social. In high school was was involved in varsity sports and several social clubs. I love being involved and constantly like to stay busy. This is one reason why I consider myself to have a good work ethic, that and the fact that once I turned fourteen and could work, free money handouts became a as rare as finding gold at the end of the rainbow.
Since I was very young, I have always enjoyed creative activities. Drawing, acting, singing, painting, it was definitely an early passion of mine. I remember being exceptionally proud growing up when I was accepted in the special art program in school, and also when I got the lead role in both school plays! Do I ever get nervous or insecure? Of course! But I’m not one to be intimidated easily, and would rather try and fail then not try at all.
Critics are a part of life, no matter what you do. Any kind of creation one produces, is going to create an opinion for someone else. The trick is to learn from the negatives, and polish up the positives. There is always room for improvement in my opinion! I made my first video in sixth grade, comedically portraying all of my friends. I remember being so nervous when I should them. However, after seeing their positive reactions, I became filled with joy! I love entertaining people creatively. The feeling I get after a being complimented on my work is unlike any other rush I have experienced.

MikeMGTV started when I was a junior in high school. I would watch YouTube videos and idolize some of the people with popular channels. They were doing what I wanted to do, and helped me realize that it was in-fact a possibility. I started making videos of me and my friends, taking a flip video camera with me everywhere I went, and editing it on iMovie. My senior year I made a graduation video for my class, and it was a huge hit with the rest of my peers.
Once I got to college I knew I wanted to be more serious. After a lot of thought, I decided to start over and try to put out more professional looking work. I also vowed never to delete a video again, in order to watch myself improve over time. I started researching social media (like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram), study how to market media and make better quality material, became familiar with software (like Photoshop, illustrator, and final cut pro), and officially started my hobby.
The videos I make on YouTube portray a specific persona. I try to depict a typical college kid, dealing with common issues and interests, in order to connect with my viewers. Even though I am more shy and professional than the character I portray online, more and more people seemed to gravitate towards my videos. By no means am I “popular” on YouTube. I currently have about 400 subscribers, but they are steadily growing. I was recently given a shout out by a popular YouTuber named Shanna Malcolm (Heyyoshanna). Thanks to her I received about 200 new subscribers, and was overwhelmed with joy! One of my most popular videos is entitled “Secrets Girls Don’t Want Boys to Know”. It is based off the sarcasm, and the idea that, for the most part, men are completely clueless when it comes to women. I believe this is one of my most popular videos because it was easy for the audience to relate to the information I was discussing.
Even though I enjoy making YouTube videos, I still obsessed over the thought of making better quality, more meaningful pieces. Currently, I am saving my money, renting equipment, and slowly but surely, piecing together some awesome projects. Eventually, I hope to have a large professional portfolio available. I am never satisfied, but that’s a good thing. As I grow, I’ll improve. I’ll continue practicing and learning every chance I get. I guess staying busy won’t be so hard after all.
